Your home away from home

Welcome to Moya Mnandi meaning ‘gentle breeze’ in Xhosa.

Situated in the stunning peaceful and safe village of Scarborough, just a 35 minute drive outside of Cape Town.

The beautifully renovated villa with deep salt water pool is the perfect place to kick back and watch surfers and dolphins ride the majestic waves of the Atlantic from your own sun soaked balcony.

The beach is just a five minute walk from the house. Bring your wine and watch the sunset like a beach bum or enjoy it while popping a pizza into your own pizza oven.

You’ll mostly be outside...

But you should check out the inside anyway!

Moya living

The lovely bright atmosphere lift moods the moment you set foot in the house. Set up against the mountain every room has an uninterrupted view of the Atlantic. The main area is an open plan. The kitchen flows into the living and dining area uninterrupted, so even when cooking you get to gaze at the ocean.

Moya sleeping

Shhhhh! The hypnotic sound of waves crashing on the beach will put you right to sleep. And if it doesn’t, then just lie back and enjoy the view. Every one of the four double rooms have ocean views and king-size beds, except for the ‘kids’ room, which has two singles.

The TV room has a couch that turns into a comfortable bed in case of unusually large groups.

Moya scrub up

After your dive in the Atlantic, you’ll want a warm shower. Hop under one of the three lovely rain showers inside or choose the outside one in the master bathroom overlooking the ocean.

Moya cooking

If you enjoy cooking, the first question you need to ask yourself is: do you prefer cooking outside or inside?

The massive balcony boasts a professional pizza-oven and a BBQ up to South African standards (and they don’t joke about their BBQ’s). If you don’t know how to prepare pizza’s, don’t worry, we’ll walk you through it. The instructions are in the house.

If you prefer cooking inside, the kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need to prepare a feast.

Moya relaxing

Even the most stressed find their chill in Moya Mnandi. Although the house has WIFI and work can be done, our experience is most people kind of forget about work once they settle in the Scarbonian way of life.

Moya surroundings

Scarborough is a Cape Town favourite. It used to be the place where Capetonians escaped the summer city heat. Nowadays it's a peaceful residential town for surfers and leisure seekers. The beautiful white sandy beach and tubular waves make it the perfect place to hang out.

Apart from the beach there are three hotspots. The Village Hub and Whole Earth Cafe both have great kitchens full of organic products and healthy delicious meals for adults and kids. For the more local vibe there is Camel Rock with live music and great curry.

Golf

With some of the best golf courses just around the corner. Scarbs is the place to enjoy your ocean views whilst hitting the fairways at the same time.

Steenberg Golf Club

The course features four distinct areas: wetlands, parkland, the Cape flats and fynbos. Visually spectacular and technically challenging, these are the sort of holes that make golfing a true pleasure.

Royal Cape Golf

The oldest club in South Africa founded in 1885, the prestigious Royal Cape golf course has a sense of history and tradition. It lies in the shadow of Table Mountain and has a flattish parkland layout fringed with lovely mature trees and enhanced by numerous established lakes. This challenging course has been home to the South African Open on many occasions.

Clovelly

This is scenically one of the best courses on the Cape Peninsula as it is more varied than many of the parkland courses. The lovely colonial clubhouse enjoys a slightly elevated position above the course which takes full advantage of its coastal setting with deep sand dunes encroaching upon the fairways.

Surfing

It doesn’t look that hard… If you’re game, rent a board and a wetsuit in Kommetjie and jump in. If you need a bit more guidance call the local surf instructor. He’ll fix you up with a board, a suit and make sure you live to tell the story. (info in the house or special enquiry beforehand)

Hiking

Just cross the road and head up the mountain. The views, the flora and fauna are unparalleled. They don’t call Scarborough a conservation village for nothing. (routes and maps in the house)

Bicycling

So much to see. If cycling is your thing but you didn’t, can’t or wont bring your bike, we’ll arrange one for you in your size.  (info in the house or special enquiry beforehand.)

Yoga

Scarbonians are mad about yoga. There is more than one very qualified teacher living in the village. If you want just the odd class in the village or a full week in the comfort of your own home, that can be arranged. Enquire beforehand so we can be sure to get exactly what you’re looking for.

Meet the Klusmans

We are the Klusmans! We live in Amsterdam where Alex owns a campaigning agency and Jacobine is a journalist / children's book writer. Mosi and Nick, our boys, are 12 and 13.

We lived in Cape Town for some time a couple of years ago and liked the place so much we decided to buy a family house. We love it, but we also love for others to be able to enjoy it when we're not there. Alex was born and raised in Zambia and Jacobine spent her youth in Australia, so they both love the sunny, laid back atmosphere in Scarborough. The boys are active types who love soccer and hate sitting still. They find their own way around the town these days, and switch from the pool to the beach and back. We can't wait to go back, but until then anyone who properly cares for the place is very welcome.

Some kind words

I've stayed in some pretty amazing houses, but this one takes the cake. The view is breathtaking, the house is spacious and just lovely. We loved everything about it and would recommend to anyone.

Jeanette

Moya Mnandi is wonderful. The house is both stylish and comfortable and the views of the sea and sunset are out of this world. We left feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Monique

Stunning location with wonderful views. Private pool and deck was great in the hot weather. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home.
